Spreading Awareness in Donegal #pandas #pans ...

Let's talk Autism Ireland

The next speaker we have to introduce is Karen Cafferky, founder of PANDAS Ireland a group set up to support families living with PANDAS/PANS and spread awareness of these conditions. PANDAS has been around for many years but it is often overlooked during assessments due to the lack of awareness surrounding it. The symptoms displayed by a child with PANDAS can overlap with those commonly seen in ASD, ADHD, ODD, OCD and Tourette's. In 2014, Karen’s son was diagnosed with PANDAS, afterwards he received no treatment. Karen found that there was very little knowledge of the condition in Ireland and no support for families. This prompted her to set up an online private support group that now has over 200 members and also a public information page. Karen reached out to doctors in the US and Denmark and brought them to Ireland to present to parents and medics at a CPD Accredited PANDAS Awareness Conference in Dublin in October 2014. Karen is passionate about spreading awareness and sharing her experiences to try to help other families dealing with PANDAS/PANS.

Moleculera Labs

Study finds the risk of developing #OCD was nearly 5 times greater in children and adolescents who previously had a #toxoplasma infection. The risk of developing generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) was 4 times greater in children exposed to the parasitic #infection. "Toxoplasma gondii may play a role in the development of psychiatric diseases by affecting the brain," the authors write. 60 patients diagnosed with OCD and 60 with GAD presenting to the pediatric psychiatry clinic, together with 60 control group subjects with no psychiatric diagnosis, were included in the study.

Dr Goodwin McDonnell will speak at this conference in Donegal on 25th November 2017. ...

Let's talk Autism Ireland

We are delighted to announce Dr Goodwin McDonnell will be a guest speaker at the Inaugural Let’s Talk Autism Ireland. Dr Goodwin McDonnell is a practicing GP who is dedicated to helping children and families who are living with autism and related life challenging illnesses. Dr. Goodwin is not just a GP but also a homeopath, and approaches his medical practice with an integrative approach where he looks at the whole picture and not just a single symptom. This thorough approach has yielded enormous success rates for children who live with Autism Spectrum disorders and similar related illnesses. The key to his success with these patients appears to be related to treating gut disorders and dietary issues. He will explain the theory behind why so many children see significant improvement in a lot of areas such as concentration, bowel movement and sleep as a results of diet change. He will also speak about the lack of particular minerals and how adding these deficients in the form of supplementation benefit so many patients. www.eventbrite.ie/e/autism-conference-hosted-by-lets-talk-autism-ireland-tickets-38862042415?aff=es2
